Facility Description:
AT&T Stadium, also known as Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, is one of the largest and most technologically advanced sports venues in the world, and its construction was completed for an estimated $1.15 billion. Covering approximately 3 million square feet, the stadium has a seating capacity of up to 100,000, making it one of the largest NFL stadiums by capacity. The facility features a retractable roof, the world’s largest high-definition video board, and expansive concourses. The stadium’s central plant is crucial for maintaining the climate within this vast structure, with a cooling capacity of around 16,000 tons, supporting the needs of the massive indoor space. The stadium hosts a wide range of events beyond football, including concerts, basketball games, and other large-scale events, making it a versatile and iconic venue.
Timberlake & Dickson Scope:
Timberlake & Dickson provided a total of eight (8) crossflow cooling towers for the central plant, and over one hundred variable frequency drives from Yaskawa to serve the facility’s motor driven HVAC equipment.
Notable facts:
The equipment provided by Timberlake & Dickson helps not only keep the occupants of the stadium comfortable but is also part of the infrastructure that supports some unlikely contents of the stadium: over 60 high-end works of art from 44 different artists, including works by renowned contemporary artists like Olafur Eliasson, Doug Aitken, and Teresita Fernández.
Despite its massive size, AT&T Stadium incorporates several eco-friendly features, such as energy-efficient lighting, water conservation systems, and a focus on recycling. The stadium’s design also includes features that allow for natural light to reduce energy consumption during daytime events.
